Terms of Service

Welcome to LassoSnap. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the LassoSnap Chrome extension and the byzanx.com website (collectively, the “Service”), provided by the developer of LassoSnap (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

By installing the extension or using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

LassoSnap is a Chrome browser extension that allows you to:

  • Save selected text from supported AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot) into local browser storage
  • Organize saved snippets by topic and tag
  • Generate AI-powered summaries of your saved content (subject to monthly limits)
  • Export saved content as Markdown or push it to Obsidian or Notion
  • Generate prompts for further AI conversations based on your saved content

The Service has a free tier and paid tiers (“Pro” and “Pro Plus”). Features and limits of each tier are described at https://byzanx.com/lassosnap.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in jurisdictions where that is the threshold for digital consent) to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

You also represent that you are not legally barred from using the Service under the laws of your jurisdiction.

3. Your Account and License

The Service does not require a user account. Paid features are unlocked via a license key, delivered to you by email after purchase. You are responsible for keeping your license key secure.

License key rules:

  • Each license key may be activated on up to 3 devices simultaneously
  • Activating on a 4th device automatically deactivates the oldest device
  • License keys are personal and non-transferable
  • We reserve the right to revoke licenses obtained through fraud, chargeback, or violation of these Terms

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, our servers, or other users’ data
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble parts of the Service that are not open source
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service in ways that disrupt its operation
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or your license key
  • Use the Service to violate the terms of any AI platform the extension interacts with (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
  • Use the Service to capture, store, or distribute content that infringes others’ intellectual property or violates others’ privacy
  • Attempt to extract our OpenRouter API key, Paddle credentials, or other secrets
  • Use the AI Summary feature in a manner designed to exceed your tier’s quota (e.g., circumventing rate limits)

Violation of these rules may result in revocation of your license and account access, without refund.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of all snippets, notes, and other content you save through the Service (“Your Content”).

Because Your Content is stored locally on your device (chrome.storage.local), we generally do not have access to it. The exceptions are described in our Privacy Policy (§2.2):

  • When you use AI Summary, the snippets you select are transmitted to OpenRouter via our server
  • When you push to Notion, the content is transmitted to Notion via our server
  • When you push to Obsidian, no content leaves your browser

For these limited cases, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to process Your Content solely for the purpose of delivering the requested feature. We do not store, train on, or analyze Your Content beyond this purpose.

6. AI-Generated Output

When you use the AI Summary feature, the Service generates output using third-party large language models (currently provided by OpenRouter, which routes to providers including Anthropic). AI-generated output:

  • May contain inaccuracies, fabrications, or biased information
  • Is not a substitute for professional advice (legal, medical, financial, etc.)
  • May not be unique to you (similar queries by other users may produce similar output)

You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated output before relying on it or sharing it.

We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness of AI-generated output for any particular purpose.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service interacts with third-party services:

  • AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot) — for capturing content. Your use of these platforms is governed by their own terms.
  • Obsidian and Notion — for pushing your saved content. Your use of these services is governed by their own terms.
  • OpenRouter — for AI Summary generation. Governed by their terms.
  • Paddle — for payment processing. Governed by their terms.

We are not responsible for the availability, terms, or practices of any third party.

8. Subscriptions, Billing, and Refunds

8.1 Paid plans

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through Paddle.com Inc., which acts as the Merchant of Record for all transactions.

Subscription pricing is shown at checkout. Pricing may change for future billing periods; we will notify you of any price change at least 30 days in advance.

8.2 Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. Renewal is processed by Paddle using your stored payment method.

8.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through:

  • The “Cancel subscription” button in LassoSnap Settings, or
  • The Paddle customer portal (link provided in your license email)

Upon cancellation:

  • You retain access to paid features until the end of the current billing period
  • No prorated refund is issued for the unused portion of the current period
  • After the period ends, your account is downgraded to the free tier; your local data is preserved

8.4 Refunds

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy. In summary: 14-day money-back guarantee for first-time purchases and renewals, subject to limited exceptions (e.g., accounts that have used 10+ AI Summaries during the refund period).

8.5 Taxes

Prices shown at checkout may or may not include applicable taxes (VAT, GST, sales tax, etc.) depending on your jurisdiction. Paddle handles tax calculation and remittance.

9. Intellectual Property

9.1 Our IP

The Service (including its name, logo, design, code, and documentation), excluding portions explicitly licensed as open source, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.

9.2 Open source

Portions of the Service are open source. The applicable license is included in our public repository at https://github.com/byzanx/lassosnap.

9.3 Trademark

“LassoSnap” and the ✦ logo are trademarks of the developer. You may not use them without prior written permission, except to refer to the Service in good-faith commentary or review.

9.4 Third-party IP

We respect intellectual property rights and expect users to do the same. If you believe content saved through the Service infringes your rights, please contact us at hello@byzanx.com with sufficient detail to identify the content and your claim.

10. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

11. Service Availability and Modifications

We strive to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance, third-party outages, or unexpected issues may cause temporary unavailability.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. For material changes that affect paid features, we will provide reasonable notice (typically 30 days). If a discontinued feature was a primary reason for your subscription, you may request a prorated refund.

We may also update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated via the extension or by email. Continued use after the update indicates acceptance.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the extension. Your local data remains on your device until you delete it.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or applicable law. In serious cases, we may revoke your license without refund.

13. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF AI-GENERATED OUTPUT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Defects will be corrected within any specific timeframe
  • AI Summary output will meet your expectations
  • Third-party platforms (AI platforms, Obsidian, Notion, etc.) will remain compatible

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in these Terms.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Our total cumulative liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of:

  • The total amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the event giving rise to the claim, or
  • USD $50

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory under which the claim is brought.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

15. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer of LassoSnap from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of:

  • Your breach of these Terms
  • Your misuse of the Service
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Content you save or push through the Service that infringes others’ rights

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

For users in the EU/UK: nothing in this section limits your statutory consumer rights, which apply regardless of choice of law.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be addressed through informal negotiation (email us at hello@byzanx.com). If unresolved within 60 days, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by a recognized arbitration body in the governing jurisdiction, except where prohibited by law for consumer disputes.

For US users: you waive any right to participate in class actions or collective arbitration, except where prohibited.

17. Miscellaneous

  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
  • No waiver: Failure to enforce any provision does not waive the right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment: You may not assign these Terms. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
  • Force majeure: We are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, war, internet outages, government action, etc.).
